A Caribbean Twist on a Classic
The Jamaican Mule takes the beloved structure of the Moscow Mule and gives it a sultry island makeover. Instead of vodka, this variation leans on the full-bodied charm of dark Jamaican rum. With its deep molasses backbone and whispers of tropical fruit, the rum harmonizes effortlessly with the zesty ginger beer and bright lime juice. A dash of Angostura bitters is optional but recommended—it adds subtle spice and complexity, rounding out the cocktail with a polished finish.
Why Jamaican Rum Makes the Difference
While a traditional Mule is crisp and clean, the Jamaican Mule is warm, bold, and flavorful. The dark rum provides richness that elevates the entire drink, making it feel both refreshing and indulgent. For the best flavor experience, choose a high-quality dark rum like Myers’s—its deep caramel and charred barrel notes bring the cocktail to life.
Crafted for Summer, Perfect Anytime
Served ice-cold in a copper mug, the Jamaican Mule is tailor-made for warm evenings, casual gatherings, or whenever your taste buds crave something both refreshing and exotic. The lime wedge garnish doesn’t just add flair—it contributes a burst of citrus that balances the drink’s natural sweetness.
TIP: Choose Premium Rum
Not all rums are created equal. Look for a premium-grade dark Jamaican rum with authentic pot-still character. This ensures a complex flavor profile with notes of molasses, spice, and oak that stand up to the boldness of the ginger beer.

How Dark Rum is Made
Dark rum begins its life much like other rums—by fermenting sugarcane juice or molasses. What sets it apart is how it’s aged and blended. Typically matured in charred oak barrels, dark rum gains its signature color and deep flavor from prolonged aging and sometimes added caramel. The aging process allows the spirit to absorb vanilla, spice, and smoky notes from the barrel, resulting in a bold, full-bodied profile perfect for cocktails like the Jamaican Mule.
A Toast to Island Flavor
Whether you’re dreaming of a beachside hammock or just looking to elevate your happy hour, the Jamaican Mule delivers layers of flavor that feel both familiar and new. One sip, and you’re halfway to the Caribbean.
